The Ballad of Madonna and Guy Ritchie continues, with the superstar’s representative adding a tune of her own, hummed exclusively for People magazine: “There are no plans for Madonna and Guy to divorce.”
Speculation has been intense regarding a possible divorce for power couple Madonna and Guy Ritchie. The media has been forecasting a spectacular end to the seven-year-marriage between the pop star and the British director, only to have the two deny report after report.
Madonna and Ritchie spent the weekend apart, a separation that did not elude the attentive eye of the press. The singer, who kicks off her Sweet and Sticky World Tour on Aug. 23 in Cardiff, Wales, has been in New York rehearsing, while Ritchie stayed in London.
Their spiritual endeavors kept them united though, as Madonna attended Kabbalah meetings at Manhattan’s Kabbalah Centre, and Ritchie in London.
The fact that neither wore a wedding band fueled rumors yet more, to which Madonna’s spokesperson, Liz Rosenberg, said, “Madonna has rarely worn a wedding band over these last six years, so there’s no secret message about that.”
Rosenberg has been very busy lately issuing statements that deny breakup rumors. She released an exclusive statement to People magazine Tuesday, explaining that Ritchie’s arrival in New York Monday evening was not a last-minute attempt to salvage the marriage.
“Madonna's husband Guy arrived in New York last night to be with his wife and family (not in a last ditch attempt to save his marriage which does not need saving),” Rosenberg told People. “There are no plans for Madonna and Guy to divorce,” she concluded firmly.
As to a published report in New York concerning an alleged relationship between the singer and New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, Rosenberg squashed this as well, explaining that Madonna and Rodriguez have the same manager, that the pop star took her children to a Yankees game last week and that there is “really not anything to comment on beyond that.”
Madonna and Ritchie married in December 2000 in Scotland. They are parents to three children: daughter Lourdes, 11, from a previous relationship of the singer’s, son Rocco, 7, and adoptive son David Banda, 2.
Last week, the London Times reported that Madonna had consulted renowned British divorce attorney Fiona Shackleton, who represented Paul McCartney in his bitter divorces from Heather Mills.
