Bisexual MTV babe Tila Tequila, who is currently dating socialite/actress Courtenay Semel, said she is very excited about the latest celebrity gay wedding: Ellen DeGeneres and her longtime love Portia de Rossi, who exchanged vows during the weekend at their home in Los Angeles.
"I thought it was awesome," Tequila was quoted by Usmagazine.com as saying at the "Hot In Hollywood" event in Hollywood on Saturday. "I was really excited when I heard about it, and the fact that they are openly out there... they look so happy together."
"It's great that people are able to marry each other whether you are gay or straight," she added. Speaking of her current relationship which has been lasting for about six months, Tequila said she met her girlfriend thorough mutual friends and that she's very happy about how things turned out for her.
"I thought she was a party girl — but she is not!" Tequila said of Semel. "She will actually stay home with me, which is awesome."
Talkshow hostess and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, 50, and her girlfriend of nearly four years, actress Portia de Rosi, were pronounced wife and wife in an intimate ceremony attended by 19 guests, including DeGeneres's mom Betty and de Rossi's mother Margaret Rogers (who flew in from Australia for the occasion), who witnessed the couple exchange handwritten vows. They both wore Zac Posen, with Portia in a pale pink backless gown with a tulle skirt and Ellen in white pants, shirt, and vest.
According to a Us Weekly source, the newlyweds posed for pictures with Ellen's mother and the couple's two dogs. "They were hugging and kissing, and looked ecstatic. Ellen was helping Portia with the train of her dress, which looked like a Cinderella tutu," the source said.
Degeneres announced she and Portia intended to wed during one of her shows following the California Supreme Court's monumental ruling that same sex couple's have the right to marry.
However, Gay marriages will still hold many restrictions such as, the inability to file joint federal tax returns, social security benefits, and veteran's benefits. Regardless, many couples are expected to follow into Ellen and Portia's example.
The small ceremony is a big change from Ellen and Portia’s earlier plans for their wedding. Ellen quipped that she had even invited their gardener, and their guest list was rumored to be over 200. Ultimately they decided to keep it less complicated and just share it with a few friends and family.
"One of my favorite people of all time is Ms. Ellen DeGeneres," "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigel told AP Television at a Hollywood charity event on Saturday night. "So I wish all the best, all the happiness, all the joy that comes with that certificate ... just the joy of being able to stand up and say that. In front of everyone you love and care about in front of each other and to walk away legal is huge."
Congratulations to Ellen and Portia and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together!
