Jimmy Page's Broken Finger Postpones Major Reunion Concert

A Led Zeppelin reunion concert hailed as the reunion of all reunions has been postponed because legendary guitarist Jimmy Page recently fractured a finger.

Original Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were to be joined by Jason Bonham, the son of drummer John Bonham, who passed way in 1980, for an extraordinary get-together on stage in London on Nov. 26.

The concert was meant as a tribute show for Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who passed away in December 2006, aged 83. Ertegun signed Zeppelin almost 40 years ago, in 1968.

Jimmy Page announced the sad news Friday in a statement. “I am disappointed that we are forced to postpone the concert by two weeks, however Led Zeppelin have always set very high standards for ourselves, and we feel this postponement will enable my injury to properly heal and permit us to perform at the level both the band and our fans have always been accustomed to,” the veteran guitarist said.

The show has been rescheduled for Dec. 10, by which time Page’s finger is expected to recover fully. No details have been disclosed regarding the time of his injury or the exact finger that suffered the fracture.

E! Online reports that the incident may have taken place last weekend, requiring three weeks for complete healing.

Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant has said of the forthcoming tribute concert: “During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us, he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator. This performance stands alone as a tribute to the work and life of a longstanding friend.”

Other artists scheduled to perform at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert are Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, Pete Townshend, Paolo Nutini and Foreigner. The event was announced in September by promoter Harvey Goldsmith.

The last time Plant, Page and Jones took the stage together was in 1988, when they were also joined by Jason Bonham and played at a 40th-anniversary show for Atlantic Records. Before that, they had played in 1985 for Live Aid, with Phil Collins and Tony Thompson on drum duties.

In 1994, Plant and Page reunited for an MTV Unplugged performance that resulted in a world tour and an album.

The show now postponed for December is in support of the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund.
