AOL Spammer Goes to Jail

An AOL spammer has been recently sent to prison, after the court has found him guilty of being involved in sending spam email messages to more than 1.2 million America Online customers. The man is called Todd Moeller, he is from New Jersey, and he will spend his next two years in prison after he has been sentenced this Friday for what he did.

Todd Moeller is now 28 years old, but he will be 30 when coming back home from jail, as the recently given sentence requires him to spend no less than 27 months in prison.

The man has been sentenced because he has been caught while making a deal with a government informant for sending junk email messages or spams. The spams were advertising a computer security program in return for the 50 percent of the profits, according to the United States’ Attorney’s Office from Manhattan.

Todd Moeller has pleaded guilty earlier this year for breaking the anti-spam laws and for defeating AOL’s filter system with the help of a wide range of servers and by changing the header information on emails so that they could not be traced back. Moeller has told the government informant via instant messaging that he profited no less than $40,000 a month from other spam scams promoting stocks.

Todd Moeller and his associated, Adam Vitale, sent spam messages on behalf of the informant towards no less than 1.27 million addresses of AOL customers. Adam Vitale has also pleaded guilty and he will be sentenced on the 13th of November.
