Blackhawks Beat Red Wings 3-2 to End Their Streak

The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Sunday to record their third win over the Wings and end their nine-game winning streak as well.

"It's nice to beat the team that was on a hot streak like the Wings," Chicago center Robert Lang said.

The guy that clinched the win for them was Jonathan Toews, who scored on a second-period power play after receiving an assist from team mate Jason Williams and Patrick Kane to score with 1:35 left in the period and give the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead.

"It's always a confidence-builder to beat a team like that. We're getting a lot of scoring from different guys across the board. Everyone is chipping in one way or another," Toews said after the game.

The Blackhawks opened the score in the first period through Yanic Perreault and Kane off assists by Lang and they were 2-0 up. Kane made his seventh goal of the season on a power play 15:09 into the opening period. Goalkeeper Nikolai Khabibulin made 30 saves as Chicago recorded their third win in a row and their fifth victory out of six possible.

For the Red Wings, Jiri Hudler scored the first goal in the second period just two minutes before Toews netted the victory-clinching strike two minutes later. Nicklas Lidstrom made it 3-2 with a third-period goal for Detroit. Chris Osgood made 24 saves for the Red Wings.

Switzerland’s Henrik Zetterberg recorded an assist to extend his season-opening points streak to 17 games. He has 13 goals and 14 assists during his career run, and his 27 points are tops in the league. The Swiss is also tied on the second place in goals scored behind Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk.

On the power play, Chicago went 2-for-6, while Detroit was scoreless on its five chances.
