It’s been quite a while since she checked out of rehab and growing tired of shopping and going out, Lindsay Lohan showed up for her first day of community service yesterday at the American Red Cross Blood Services building in Pomona.

The recovering actress, who has until January to serve one day behind bars and 10 more of community service as her sentence for two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and possession of cocaine, was spotted leaving the building at around 7 p.m. carrying a book titled "Blood."

Lindsay’s once estranged father, Michael Lohan, took advantage of the situation to speak to the media once again.

"When she was younger I had her at hospitals, visiting cancer patients and sick kids," Michael Lohan, whose reunion with Lindsay occurred while she was in rehab, was quoted by People as saying. "I know she wants to do stuff like this, mission work. I asked her how it was going and she said she is really enjoying it," he added. "She's happy."

The 21-year-old "Mean Girls" star was initially sentenced to the mandatory minimum of four days in jail but prosecutors agreed to allow her to serve community service instead of two days behind bars. A further day was taken off the jail sentence because of time she already served during her July arrest (her second in 2007). Lindsay was also ordered to attend an 18-month alcohol education program during her three-year probation.

According to PerezHilton.com, the starlet reportedly plans to check into jail on Thanksgiving.

"She’s hoping by doing her sentence on a holiday that there will be less attention on her arrival and departure," a source said. "She doesn’t want the same hoopla that surrounded Paris."
