Amy Winehouse apparently considered it a matter of honor to sing during a scheduled concert in Birmingham despite her recent troubles, but fans were so displeased with her performance that they booed her and left the venue.

The BBC reports that British singer Amy Winehouse appeared on stage Wednesday for the first time since her husband’s arrest, who is currently in prison awaiting trial on charges of witness tampering, but she probably found little comfort in her fans.

The 24-year-old apparently slurred her words and was unsteady on her feet, as she sang her hits “Back to Black,” “Rehab” and “Tears Dry On their Own.” This was too much for some of the fans, who started booing her; some even walked out of the concert.

The singer told the audience at one point: “To them people booing, wait 'til my husband gets out of incarceration. And I mean that.”

She even managed to dedicate one song, “Wake Up Alone” to husband Blake Fielder-Civil. It was during an encore cover of The Zutons' “Valerie” that Amy stopped singing and simply walked off the stage, according to BBC.

The distraught singer had reportedly visited her husband, whom she married in May in Miami, for the first time Wednesday in the prison where he awaits trial. Her spokesperson told BBC that although it had been a difficult day for her, she decided that the people who had paid to see her did not deserve a canceled performance.

The concert at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena was the first of her UK tour in Birmingham. The tour is due to continue as planned on Friday night in Glasgow, according to BBC.

Blake has been ordered by a judge to remain in police custody until Nov. 23 over charges of assaulting a bartender earlier this year and allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice. He and another man allegedly assaulted a barman at a pub in London in June; the injured man allegedly required metal plates fitted in his face after the attack, the Daily Mail reported earlier this week.

The case was to go on trial this week, when new allegations surfaced. Blake was accused of attempting to get one of the witnesses to the assault to change his evidence, by offering him money. He was arrested by police last Thursday.

If convicted, Amy Winehouse’s 25-year-old husband faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, on charges of grievous bodily harm for the alleged attack on the barman and attempting to pervert justice.
