If all goes well, Jennifer Garner could star alongside British actor Ricky Gervais in the indie comedy “This Side of the Truth.”
Variety reports that the “Alias” actress is in final negotiations to star opposite Ricky Gervais in the film. Gervais also penned the script in collaboration with Matthew Robinson; the pair is set to direct as well.
Lynda Obst and son Oly Obst are producing, while Media Rights Capital is financing the project. Filming begins in spring, per the trade paper.
“This Side of the Truth” is set in a world where lying does not exist. When Gervais’ character discovers how to lie, he uses this ability to make his life a better one. Personally, by charming a beautiful woman that would hardly give him a second look (to be played by Garner) and professionally, by making his job a success.
Garner’s recent screen credits include the Peter Berg-directed political drama “The Kingdom,” where the actress starred alongside Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, and Jason Bateman.
She is currently starring on Broadway in “Cyrano de Bergerac” opposite Kevin Kline. Garner will next be seen in Fox Searchlight's “Juno,” alongside Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman and Rainn Wilson. “Juno” opens Dec. 5. Garner will begin filming New Line's “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” opposite Matthew McConaughey in February.
Gervais is known for his starring role in the BBC/HBO series “Extras,” which he also co-wrote and co-directed with Stephen Merchant. Gervais likewise teamed up with Merchant and created, written and directed the British television comedy “The Office,” which eventually inspired the creation of an American version.
Gervais’ recent appearances on the big screen include “For Your Consideration,” “Night at the Museum” and “ Stardust.”
