Chris Kaman, Clippers Beat Nuggets 101-90

With Chris Kaman leading the way, the Los Angeles Clippers downed the Denver Nuggets 101-90, at the Staples Center.

Kaman scored 17 points, hauled in 21 rebounds, and also had four blocks. Quinton Ross added 17 off the bench, which scored 50 per cent of Clippers’ points as the team ended their two-game losing streak. Cuttino Mobley followed with 14 points, Tim Thomas chipped in with 13, and Al Thornton scored 12 as the Clippers had five players that finished the game in double figures.

Denver saw its six-game winning streak vanishing despite the fact that its superstars did their job. Allen Iverson scored 29 and added nine assists, while Carmelo Anthony closely followed with 24 points. Marcus Camby also had a good game and recorded 18 points and 18 rebounds, but the Nuggets didn't get much else production as the Clippers got from their bench.

After the first quarter the Clippers were three points behind, but the Nuggets went cold for a long stretch of the second and allowed Los Angeles to go on an 11-2 run to regain the momentum. The Clippers were seven points ahead at the half time (53-46).

They managed to protect that lead for most of the third quarter, despite Iverson’s jumper more than halfway through the quarter drew the Nuggets within three, 64-61. But Denver went cold again and missed their next six shots.

Denver had a poor shooting percentage, just 39.1 percent from the field overall, 58.1 from the free throw line, and 18.2 from three point range.

"We couldn't get into a rhythm offensively," Iverson said. "This was a night we just didn't make shots. It was a bad team effort, and they played well."

So the Clippers took advantage of the situation and outscored the Nuggets 13-5 to the end of the third quarter to carry a 77-66 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers never went cold. Actually, they made back-to-back baskets and made their free throws, thus making it almost impossible for the Nuggets to get back at them in the fourth.
