Alicia Keys Storms Billboard 200 with Mega-Selling “As I Am”

Alicia Keys storms The Billboard 200 this week with “As I Am” (J Records), which debuts at No. 1 after selling 742,000 copies in the United States, according to a report released by Nielsen SoundScan.

This seems to be the best sales week for a solo female artist since Norah Jones’ “Feels Like Home,” which sold 1 million copies three years ago. This album comes second in sales this year, after Kanye West’s “Graduation,” which sold 957,000 copies in it debut week in September.

All of alicia's previous albums hit the top spot

The singer promoted her new album with a concert on ABC’s “Good Morning America” exactly in the same morning the album was being released. She also appeared on the “Tonight Show,” for the same reason.

In a week where every top 10 album shifted more than 100,000 units, Josh Groban’s “Noel” (143/Reprise) zooms from sixth spot to No. 2 with 223,000 copies sold.

Celine Dion’s “Taking Chances,” (Columbia) her first new pop album in four years debuts at No. 3 with 214,000 copies.

“Now 26,” which includes a compilation of various artists, is at No. 4 with 208,000.

Garth Brooks’ “The Ultimate Hits” (Pearl) slips from No. 3 to No. 5 with 204,000 copies, while the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden"(Eagles Recording Co.) drops four places from No. 2 to No. 6 with 197,000 copies.

Led Zeppelin’s “Mothership” (Swan Song/Atlantic) opens at No. 7 after selling 136,000 copies.

Jay-Z's "American Gangster" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) comes at No. 8 with 131,000 copies, while Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride"(Arista Nashville) loses four places, dropping from No. 5 to No. 9 with 113,000 copies.

The last spot on Top Ten belongs to Chris Brown’s “Exclusive” (Jive) which falls from No. 4 to No. 10 in its second week with 110,000 copies.
