Melanie Brown and her professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, earned 55 out of a possible 60 points for their cha-cha and freestyle dances during Monday's competition, with Castroneves coming in second with 54 points and Osmond ranking last with 46 judge-awarded points.
Osmond's rag-doll character for the couple's freestyle dance has been mocked by judge Bruno Tonioli who said "It's like `Baby Jane' and the `Bride of Chucky.'" She fired back saying "It's freestyle, and you're supposed to have fun with it, and I know my fan base. I'm one of the top designers in the world with dolls, so I'm having fun."
Tonight, the finale will decide whether two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves and his partner, Julianne Hough, who is pegged by many viewers to win the "Dancing" title, will prevail over the other two pairs. "It's been amazing," Castroneves said. "I never thought I would be able to get this far. My goal in the beginning was not to be the first eliminated."
The third-place contestant will be announced first, at the start of tonight's show, and the remaining pairs will perform two last dances, which will help determine the winner. Most people expect Marie Osmond to take third place with her partner Jonathan Roberts. Although she has come a long way since week 1, she is still not up to the level of the other two remaining pairs.
So, it will be a battle between the sultry Mel B, recently dumped by Eddie Murphy after he fathered her a daughter, and Helio Castroneves, who seems to be a natural for dancing, prompting judge Carrie Ann Inaba to call him "ridiculously good."
"It's out of my element," Castroneves said of dancing. "I listen as much as I can to my partner. She's amazing. This is her territory," he said of Julianne Hough. "She also pushes to the limits to see how far I can go," he added. "She sees that, and when she sees I'm beyond my limits, she changes it to make it a little better."
Even though Castroneves should probably win overall, the trophy may end up with Scary Spice, who has the bigger fan base (further enlarged by her sultry whip act on "Dancing") and managed to snatch the most points (by 1) on Monday's show.
Melanie Brown, who is allegedly bisexual (according to friend Christa Parker), began dating long term friend and movie producer Stephen Belafonte in early 2007. Brown and Belafonte quietly married on 6 June 2007, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Melanie Brown, 32, has started to date her film producer since her break-up from comedian Eddie Murphy last year.
