Google My Location Helps Users To Locate Themselves

Mobile phone users who don’t have GPS-enabled mobile phones, with Google’s new My Location technology, will be able to determine where they are on the map, what’s around them and how to get there. There are less than 15 percent of the mobile phones sold in 2007 that have GPS capabilities.

And even if GPS is a possibility, for users that don’t have signal from the satellite My Location will provide them with location information. In this case, the blue dot that corresponds with their GPS location will be surrounded by a light blue circle to represent an approximation of their location.

The new My Location feature is being released in beta, and helps mobile phone users to save time and keystrokes by simply pressing [0] to move the map to their approximate location. Actually, My Location Feature adds more speed and convenience by location information as it kicks in faster than GPS does most of the cases, as it has to recognize the satellite first. And this might take several minutes. My Location also works indoors, unlike GPS and conserves cells phone batteries more than GPS.

My Location technology is available on most smartphones, all color BlackBerry devices, all Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition devices, most Windows Mobile devices, newer Sony Ericsson devices and some Motorola devices.

Steve Lee, Google’s product manager said that users can access Google Maps for mobile with My Location through the following countries: U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Portugal, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Russian Federation, and Taiwan.
