Led by B. Davis, Warriors Rout Rockets 94-113

Led by their crafty guard Baron Davis, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 113-94 to go from losing streak to winning record.

Davis was the game’s leading scorer with 27 points and added 8 assists and 5 rebounds to go with that. His team mates followed and Stephen Jackson contributed with 19 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds, while Monta Ellis and Al Harrington chipped in with 18 points each. Andris Biedrins helped with his nine points and 10 boards.

Mike James led the Rockets in scoring with 19 points as Houston’s top stars, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, were out cold for the night. McGrady shot 5-of-14 and scored 11 points, while Yao was 4-of-12 and scored a season-low 10 points. Bonzi Wells added 13 points for the Rockets which saw their three-game wining streak snap.

Andris Biedrins guarded Yao Ming at the start of the game, but Coach Don Nelson thought it might be better to switch to Harrington. And it was. Yao not only scored his season low, but also committed five turnovers and since Harrington came to Golden State they played the Rockets on two occasions. Yao scored just 19 points on 6-of-16 shooting in those two games.

"I definitely do not own Yao Ming. If I play behind him, he will kill me," Harrington said, and added that without the help from his team mates the big man from China would have scored a lot more.

"He still had opportunities to make some baskets but I think by the time he got it he was tired by being hit and fronted all the time. We did a good job of wearing him down."

The Warriors are now 8-7 and became the fastest team in NBA history to post a winning record after losing its first six games.

"They did a great job of taking Yao and myself out of the game," McGrady admitted after the game. He added that the Warriors wore them down by double teaming them on each play.
