Adobe and Yahoo! Team Up For Web Ads In PDFs

Adobe and Yahoo! unveiled a new ad service, which can be used for distribute Web ads embedded in PDF files.

The service, called Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo!, will allow commercial publishers to drive new revenue through the contextual ads place in PDFs.

For the moment, the Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo! system is available as a limited beta program and is open for US-based publishers.

After joining the service, the publishers should upload their Adobe PDF content to an Yahoo/Adobe managed portal. Yahoo and Adobe will recondition the documents to display dynamically generated Yahoo ads and sent them back to the publishers. Adobe is planning also to develop APIs to simplify this process

The Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo! system will display the ads in a separate panel so that they do not disrupt the viewing experience

There are several publishers who already joined the program such as IDG InfoWorld, Wired, Pearson’s Education, Meredith Corporation and Reed Elsevier.

The Ads for Adobe PDF Powered by Yahoo! system currently only supports pay-per-click text ads, but it is planning on expanding to graphical and rich media ads.

Also, Adobe said that Yahoo! is the exclusive partner for the beta phase.

“By partnering with Yahoo! on this innovative advertising service we are creating opportunities for publishers to build new businesses around unique content that previously was just given away or not available to a mass online audience,” said Rob Tarkoff, senior vice president, Corporate Development at Adobe. “As advertisers look to touch new audiences, readers can look forward to some exciting Adobe PDF content coming their way.”
