Nine Injured in Boston Collision of Two MBTA Trolley Cars

Nine people were taken to the hospital after two Green Line trolleys collided Thursday morning at a platform at the Boylston Street station, according to a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

They were all accusing back and neck pain.

MBTA spokesperson, Joe Pesaturo said one inbound train was stopped at the Boylston Street platform this morning just after 8 a.m., when another train crashed into the back of it. The accident was qualified as “minor.” One of the cars derailed, he added, according to local media sources.

Nine people were immediately taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, among which two trolley drivers numbered, said Tim Holland, deputy superintendent of Boston Emergency Medical Services.

“There was nothing that was very serious," Holland said, referring to the injured ones and the scene of the accident.

The trolleys did not suffer visible damages, said Pesaturo. He also added that they have not yet discovered the cause of the accident, saying that it is “very rare” for the two trains to collide.

MBTA crews are currently working to get the cars back on the tracks. Green Line passengers will use busses between Kenmore Square and Park Street in both directions until subway service on that line resumes, Pesaturo announced.
