The Emmy Award-winning game-show host will be spending the holidays with his family after being released from hospital this weekend following a heart attack he suffered last week.
Aex Trebek, who was discharged from Los Angels’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Saturday, said he is set to spend as much time with his family as possible during his recovery at his Studio City home.
"I'm truly overwhelmed by the great show of support and compassion expressed in the past few days to me, my family and my coworkers," the 67-year-old host said in a statement.
"Even though I know Jeopardy! is a very popular program, I was still surprised at the number of people who took time from their schedules to call or send a note of encouragement.
"I thank you all so very much. I'm on the mend, and will be spending Christmas at home with my family," he added.
After spending Christmas surrounded by family and friends, Trebek said he plans to be back in the studio by January 14 to tape the show’s Teen Tournament. In the meantime, there are enough freshly taped shows to be aired until Trebek returns to work.
Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical center late Monday night last week for a "minor heart attack." A message posted on the official Jeopardy! website assured his fans that he was "resting comfortably" and he was to return in due time to host the next set of shows.
"Jeopardy!" has won 27 Emmy awards and is been the No. 1-rated quiz show in syndication for more than 1,000 weeks, Sony said. Canadian-born Trebek was a TV and radio reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Company before becoming the show’s host in 1984.
Trebek who moved to the United States and became a U.S. citizen in 1998, obtained a philosophy degree from the University of Ottawa and is also the only host in United States TV history to helm three daily national game shows at once, "Jeopardy!" "Classic Concentration" and "To Tell the Truth."
