UK’s troubled singer Amy Winehouse, who was arrested on Monday in connection with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s obstruction of justice case, was released from jail late Tuesday, E!Online reported.
While Britney Spears wasn’t yet arrested, her British version was taken into custody "by appointment" Monday in London, to be questioned regarding her husband’s alleged $400,000 plot to fix his assault trial.
Winehouse voluntarily went to the Shoreditch police station in east London to be formally booked on a charge of perverting justice and was later released after being fingerprinted and having provided a DNA sample.
Although no names were given, a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said that "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by appointment at an east London police station. She is currently in custody. The arrest was made in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice." Winehouse was later released on bail, and is free until March when a court hearing is scheduled.
"We do want to talk to her about matters," a source from Scotland Yard was quoted by The Sun as saying, "particularly financial ones, which may be important in this case."
"It seems that in her marriage she has been the breadwinner and has kept her husband in pocket money. We have looked at their financial affairs and there are questions we’d like to ask her," the source added.
The "Rehab" singer’s publicist released a statement saying: "Amy Winehouse attended a London police station today on a voluntary basis at a pre-agreed time. She was arrested, but thhat is common practice for someone being interviewed by police. No charges have been brought."
Police dramatically arrested Fielder-Civil last month for allegedly "perverting justice" surrounding a case in which he beat up a bartender in June. In addition, five other men were arrested following a police raid on Winehouse’s home.
While Fielder-Civil is to remain jailed in London’s Pentonville prison awaiting trial on charges of "perverting justice and grievous bodily harm" until January 18, his wife announced the cancellation of all her public appearances claiming she can’t perform knowing her hubby is behind bars.
"I can't give it my all onstage without my Blake," she said at the time. "My husband is everything to me, and without him, it's just not the same."
The singer, who was recently nominated for six Grammy awards, has been making headlines with her erratic behavior, including alcohol and drug abuse, and strange late night walks around London in just her underwear.
One of British music’s most talented stars, Winehouse’s "Back to Black" album has been welcomed with critical and commercial success, although her most recent performances were very disappointing.
