R. Kelly showed up on time in court Thursday thus avoiding a
possible arrest. Still, the judge jail is thinking whether he will punish the
singer for missing the date court on Wednesday.
R. Kelly might have to cancel his show on Friday at the United Center,
after he cancelled the one in Minneapolis
this Thursday.
Yesterday Kelly showed up on time at Cook County Criminal
Court.
Judge Vincent Gaughan declared that he was “"very
disappointed” that the R&B star had missed the court date a day earlier,
Chicago Tribune informs.
He told the singer to return on Friday to court and didn’t
take a decision whether to punish Kelly.
Kelly is currently on national tour and was on his way to Chicago from a Sacramento
gig, when his tour bus was pulled over by police in Utah State
for speeding. Police also discovered that the log book of the bus wasn’t filled
correctly and that the driver looked exhausted and was forced to take a rest at
a hotel, delaying the caravan for eight hours.
The judge admonished the singer although his lawyer, Ed
Genson, explained the situation, and will set a date for trial on Friday.
Judge Gaughan said that the court dates are set after R.
Kelly’s schedules.
He said: "These are extraordinary matters to have these
breaks given to you and then nobody shows up. I don't know what I am going to
do. I have to consider it."
“I need more input about what happens to you if I revoke
your bail and stop you from concerts," Gaughan added, the Associated Press
quotes.
Assistant
State's Atty. Shauna
Boliker asked for Kelly’s $750,000 bail to be revoked and for him to be sent to jail due to his failure to
appear in court.
Genson wanted to emphasize that this was the first time, in
over 100 appearances in the 5 1/2 -year-old case, when the singer missed a
court date.
