On Wednesday Malaysia’s
Health Minister resigned after he admitted of being the man in the circulated sex
video.
According to Reuters, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
accepted Health Minister Chua Soi Lek’s resignation.
On Tuesday Chua didn’t want to resign saying that his family
had forgiven him and he expected the same thing from the Malaysians and his
party. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and on Wednesday he had to give up
and resign due to pressure, the New York Times informs.
Chua said that he didn’t make those DVDs. He refers to the
DVDs that are of 56 and 44 minutes length and were made two years ago in a
hotel room. They were filmed with four different cameras from different angles
and then edited. They appeared at street corners and even in the people junk
mail.
Police is investigating to see who was responsible for the
video recordings and how was possible that four cameras were in a hotel in the
southern state of Johor.
Prime Minister Abdullah declared that he was shocked about
the DVDs, but said that this won’t affect the preparations for the election.
At the news conference Chua said: “I am the man in the
tape,” and described the woman in the video as a “friend.”
“I would like to emphasize
that I did not make the tape myself,” he continued.
Obviously the tape was made with a purpose: to force him to
resign.
He said: "After I made my confession, I had hoped
Malaysians would be able to accept my apology. Unfortunately, from the feedback
I received, I observed that Malaysians cannot accept it. Some Malaysians have a
holier-than-thou attitude," Chua added
“At the end of the day, it just tells you that honesty
sometimes does not pay,” he said.
Political analyst said: "For a top politician you can't
continue in power when you are seen naked.”
