Two Men Were Killed After Their Car Collided with a Bus in Queens

Two very close friends were killed early Sunday when their Ford Thunderbird slid into the path of a public bus on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, the police said.

The accident happened appreciatively at 4:15 a.m., when the vehicle, traveling east, slid sideways into the Jamaica-bound No. 6 Bus from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Long Island at 168th Place. The bus was traveling from Hempstead to Queens.

The car’s driver, Christopher Boyd, 23, and his friend Eric Richmond, 25, both of Queens Village, were pronounced dead at the scene, the police said.

Relatives of Richmond and Boyd said the two boys were returning from a birthday party in Brooklyn.

The bus’ driver, 39, and a passenger, 24, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Queens from where they were released later. The other six passengers of the bus were not hurt, said Aaron Donovan, an MTA spokesperson, according to the New York Post.

Boyd’s stepmother, Wendi Boyd, who raised him since he was 4, said the car was a Christmas gift from her and his father.

“He was so happy with the car. It was going to be something good for him to have,” she said through tears, Newsday reported.

According to witnesses, the car was traveling at high speed before it collided with the MTA bus.
