George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna is said to marry her fiancé Henry Hager in a ceremony on May 10, thus making a three-year relationship official and extending the president’s family.
People magazine reports on its website that two sources confirm the young couple has set a wedding date for May 10. One of the unnamed sources says that the ceremony will take place at the president’s ranch near Crawford, Texas and not at the White House, as had been speculated.
Jenna and Henry Hager, a former Commerce Department staff member who is in his final year of the MBA program at Virginia's Darden School, wish to have a small intimate ceremony on her parents' 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel ranch, followed by a similarly discreet reception, with no intrusion from the press.
First Lady Laura Bush helped fuel the White House-wedding rumors when she said last year that she herself would enjoy such a grand event, which “would be a lot of fun.” She added that her daughter’s wishes would come first though.
“But I also know it wouldn't be very private,” Mrs. Bush told People magazine in November. “And of course we want to do what Jenna wants to do.”
People’s unnamed source seems to confirm Jenna’s plans for a low-key ceremony and adds that the 26-year-old has already selected her bridesmaids. “She's very excited. They make a great couple.”
Jenna and Hager, 29, became engaged last August. The former Karl Rove aide conspired with Jenna’s twin sister Barbara and formally asked his fiancée’s parents for her hands. After careful planning, he proposed to Jenna on a Maine mountaintop at sunrise.
Hager’s careful planning of his marriage proposal and his relying on Barbara for advice impressed the First Lady, who told People, “That was really sweet, because they have such a close relationship, Barbara and Jenna do.”
Jenna is an elementary school teacher and recently returned to her Washington classroom after a leave of absence to serve as UNICEF intern. She is also a published author; her experience in Latin America inspired her to write “Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope,”
published last September.
Jenna and Laura Bush are currently working on a book which encourages children to read.
