A 17-year-old teenager from Potomac died and another one, 16 years old, was injured in a car crash that happened early Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Brenton Thomas Everson of the 12100 block of Trailridge Drive in Potomac. The car was actually driven by the 16-year-old Richard Andrew McManus, of the 9200 block of Bentridge Avenue in Potomac, the Montgomery County Police report said.
The accident occurred at about, when McManus lost control of his 2007 blue Mazda. He was driving along Tuckerman Lane near Duryea Drive and lost control of the vehicle after a right curve in the road, police said. The accident happened close to the homes of the two teenagers, who were neighbors and students at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac.
Everson wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, Montgomery County police said. The medical crew intervened as soon as possible, but the 17-year-old was eventually pronounced dead at Suburban Hospital. McManus was also rushed the hospital, but was released after being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
According to the police record in the crash, the car crossed over the center line and hit curbs, a fence, a utility shed and then a tree.
The investigation of the accident is still under way by the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
