Poetic Title Revealed for New Bond Film

The title for the 22nd James Bond film featuring the world famous smooth British secret agent was unveiled Thursday as “Quantum of Solace,” taken from a collection of short stories written by 007 creator Ian Fleming.

Actor Daniel Craig took up the role of James Bond for 2006’s “Casino Royale” and was the first to portray the special agent as a blue-eyed blonde. He takes up the part once more, this time amidst confidence in his adequacy as 007, in the upcoming “Quantum of Solace.”

The 22nd installment of the Bond franchise has largely been surrounded by mystery but some key details were revealed Thursday at Pinewood Studios outside London where the cast and crew are currently filming, Reuters UK reports.

On one hand, we have the title, which comes from an Ian Fleming short story in the “For Your Eyes Only” collection published in 1960, which previously inspired titles for the 1981 film starring Roger Moore and 1987's “The Living Daylights,” starring Timothy Dalton.

On the other hand, we now know that Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko’s character, Bond girl Camille, will lead Bond to Dominic Greene (portrayed by Mathieu Amalric), member of a mysterious organization and a ruthless businessman, seeking to control huge natural resources, according to Reuters.

As previously reported, the new film will continue the story told in “Casino Royale,” as Bond seeks to discover the truth about Vesper Lynd’s betrayal. It was revealed Thursday that he learns Vesper (portrayed by Eva Green) had been blackmailed.

“James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge … They have slightly different goals, but in the end they are going to have to collaborate,” Kurylenko told reporters.

Amalric told reporters that his villainous character had “the smile of Tony Blair and the crazy eyes of Nicholas Sarkozy,” as quoted by BBC News. The same source quotes actress Gemma Arterton, who plays MI6 agent Fields in the film, saying the love scenes she shot made her nervous.

“I felt like a giggly girl, and I felt so young and inexperienced - but I kissed James Bond!,” the 21-year-old said, adding that her Bond character is “fresh and young, not sultry and a femme fatale.”

“Quantum of Solace,” directed by Marc Forster for Columbia Pictures and MGM, is due for release in theatres on November 7 this year.
