After months of tense expectation, Rockstar revealed today
the launch date of its major gaming title, Grand Theft Auto IV. The game will
hit the store shelves on April 29.
The game, that is one
of the most anticipated titles of 2008 for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s
PlayStation was initially scheduled to be launched on October 16, 2007, but in
August the Take Two officials decided that there is no way the development team
could meet the goal of perfecting the engine in time to meet the deadline.
Also, there were rumors that
GTA IV was delayed because Rockstar had to modify its Manhunt 2 title in
order to obtain an M rating from ESRB.
Anyway, for the fans the Grand Theft Auto IV will have a Special
Edition, which will be presented in a customized Grand Theft Auto metal safety
deposit box. The box will contain: Grand Theft Auto IV on the Xbox 360 video
game and entertainment system or the PlayStation 3, both with special
packaging, the Grand Theft Auto IV Art Book, featuring never-before-seen
production artwork from Grand Theft Auto IV, selected soundtrack CD from Grand
Theft Auto IV, featuring new material from top artists, only available on this
release, an exclusive Rockstar keychain for the safety deposit box keys Those
gamers who eagerly await the Special Edition will have to spend $89.99 in North
America or 89.99 euros in Europe.
As for the story of the game, Rockstar has released so far
three trailers. GTA IV is taking us to Liberty
City (a fictional city based on New York city). There are
several references to Liberty City on buildings and objects, as well as several
distinct features that make the city a replica of New York,
including the Statute of Liberty, Empire
State Building
and the Brooklyn Bridge.
Apparently, the story will focus on Nico, a Eastern Europe
immigrant, who was introduced in the first trailer “Things Will be Different”
and who is “Looking For That Special Someone” (as we know from the second
trailer).
In the third trailer, it was revealed that Nico has a
cousin, Roman, and they will live in the same mansion and apparently it won’t
take long until they will run in some troubles with different gangs from Liberty City.
The third trailer included various cut scenes from the game
and it looks like Nico will get a lot of action, as he is showed driving
motorcycles and speed boats and being chased and punched in the face. Though is
hard to tell who are the bad guys or the good guys in the next Grand Theft
Autos IV. But we will surely find out everything in April.
