In a letter to OK! Magazine editor, Jessica Simpson’s legal team asked that an article title "Jessica Dumped!" be retracted claiming that it reflects a "smear campaign" and has subjected Simpson to "public contempt, ridicule, aversion or disgrace."
In a letter sent to the magazine's editor-in-chief, Sarah Ivens, Simpson's attorneys Rosenberg & Giger state that the article "is based on nothing more than rumor, gossip and innuendo spread by supposed, albeit unnamed, ‘sources’ who, even if they actually exist, obviously lack sufficient confidence in their accusations to risk public attribution."
The article claims that NFL quarterback Tony Romo dumped Simpson after the Dallas Cowboys lost in the Playoffs, while Simpson’s sister, Ashlee, is distancing herself from her older sibling.
"Mr. Romo and Ms. Simpson have not broken off their romantic relationship," the lawyers added.
"That rag completely fabricated and made up this story," Simpson's rep, Cindi Berger, was quoted by E!Online as saying. "I've spoken to both Jess and Tony and they are completely secure in their relationship and won't let this garbage get under their skin!"
The starlet’s lawyers asked the magazine to "immediately publish a prominent and unambiguous" withdrawal.
Simpson and Romo started dating in November 2007, around the time Romo’s performance dropped. Some Cowboys’ fans actually blamed Simpson for the team’s poor performances, dubbing her "Yoko Romo" after Beatles' wife Yoko Ono.
