French President Sarkozy Finally Marries Carla Bruni

So it finally happened after many suppositions and many believing that it already happened!

According to the official who performed the ceremony, on Saturday French President Nicolas Sarkozy married girlfriend former model Carla Bruni at the Elysee Palace.

Francois Lebel, mayor of Paris' eighth arrondissement said to the Europe-1 radio: "The bride wore white, she was ravishing, as usual. The groom wasn't bad either," the Associated Press reports.

Sarkozy, 53 and Bruni, 40 decided to tie their destinies in front of close family and friend.

Lebel said of the ceremony that it was "a moment of family intimacy for the young newlyweds, of great simplicity and apparently a lot of affection between the spouses. I wished them a lot of happiness."

Bernadette Chirac, wife of previous French President Jacques Chirac, wanted to wish the best for the pair.

She said: "I want to express all my best wishes to this new household. She is very, very beautiful," reuters informs.

According to French law, the couples have to marry in front of a mayor to make it official.

The two met in November, after Sarkozy’s divorce of Cecilia in October. They made public their relationship during a trip to Disneyland Paris. They remained in the media eye with trips to Egypt and Jordan.

Sarzkozy surprised with his openness about his life. French are used to their presidents keeping a low profile when it comes to their lives. Even so, Sarkozy didn’t say anything about his wedding plans. He only said that French will found out about them after it had occurred.
