Former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss was arrested Thursday by Nevada police on charges of illegal possession of prescription drugs and driving under the influence, authorities said.
The 42-year-old was pulled over by sheriff’s deputies Thursday morning, after someone reported a possible drunken driver, the Nye Country sheriff’s office said, as quoted by the Associated Press.
She was arrested in Pahrump, near her home and released on $1,300 bail. Fleiss was in a car with a passenger, identified as John Owen. Both were under the influence of a controlled substance, the sheriff's office said.
Fleiss had prescription medication, the painkiller Vicodin, but could not produce a valid prescription, the sheriff's office said.
She was arrested on four counts, including possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and driving under the influence.
Her 53-year-old companion was also arrested for possession of marijuana and being under the influence. Owen posted bail of $1,264.
“During the investigation she [Fleiss] was found to have prescription narcotics on her person, not in a prescription bottle, and could produce no evidence that the prescription pain medication had been prescribed to her,” police said in a press release. “She was arrested and transported to [jail].”
This DUI arrest is a modest legal problem compared to Fleiss’ past. She was convicted in 1997 on charges related to her running a prostitution ring, tax evasion and pandering. She was jailed. After her release, Fleiss was in the public eye once more when she accused former boyfriend, actor Tom Sizemore, of domestic violence.
She currently runs a coin-operated laundry, called “Dirty Laundry.” She reportedly wishes to run a legal brothel in Nevada. She has been living in Nye County since 2005, the AP informs.
Legality is apparently something that preoccupies her these days, as she told Reuters in a phone interview that she indeed had a prescription for her medication. “I'm squeaky clean this time,” Fleiss said.
