Teacher Stabbed By Husband In Front Of Class

A teacher from Portsmouth, Ohio, was stabbed by her husband Thursday morning in front of her students, according to authorities.

Christi Layne declared that she was terrified of her husband and after separating from him; she got a restraining order and got an alarm system installed at her house.

Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to keep her husband, William Michael Layne, 56, away from her.

On Thursday morning he walked into a Catholic school with a gun, started shooting and afterwards he stabbed Christi in front of her fifth grade class.

Later his body was found by officers at his home dead from what it appeared to be a self-inflicted wound to the head.

Stephanie Loop, 22, was another woman police says was attacked by Layne. She was stabbed five blocks from the school without any particular reason what so ever.

She was taken at a Columbus hospital to be treated.

Christi Layne, 53, was also taken to the hospital where she was operated and according to her lawyer she “should be fine.”

According to her neighbor Jack Freeland, the couple separated in summer and Mike, the name he went by, had a temper.

He said: "If he didn't like something, he'd tell you straight up how it was," the Associated Press reports.

Last month Christi asked for a restraining order against her husband, after he threatened her and her son on December 26.

On January 15 a judge issued a restraining order establishing that Mike was not allowed to come any closer to her as 100 yards.

But Thursday, after 9 a.m. he walked at Notre Dame Elementary School, to the third floor and stabbed her in front of the 17 students.

Just before going to school, he attacked Loop. His body was found by authorities at his home just three hours later.

On January 25 Christi Layne had filed for divorce and police Chief Charles Horner said that authorities were involved in a domestic dispute at their home.

Rebecca Bennett, Christi Layne's attorney, said: "She was terrified something like this would happen. I spoke with her actually a couple of days ago and she was still extremely worried.”

The children ran down the stairs screaming that their teacher was shot.

The surveillance video from the school will be investigated by police to see how it was possible for Michael to enter the school when the doors were supposed to be locked.
