Pop sensation Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana, got scolded by Consumer Reports magazine for setting the wrong example to her fans by not wearing a seat belt in the back seat of a Range Rover in a scene of her movie.
In an attempt to turn things around, Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, apologized for the mistake.
“We got caught up in the moment of filming, and we made a mistake and forgot to buckle our seatbelts,” Billy Ray Cyrus was quoted by People as saying about his daughter’s latest gaffe.
”Seatbelt safety is extremely important,” he added.
The 15-year-old star can be seen in her new movie “Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds” not wearing her seat belt, as pointed out by Consumer Reports via blog post.
“It seems to us that Miley, her father and Disney had a perfect opportunity to help influence teens and counteract – rather than encourage – this trend,” the post said.
“Why should we care?” the posting continued. “Because, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in about 55 percent of passenger vehicle fatalities in 2006 (the latest data available), the occupants were not wearing seat belts. Even worse, in the 13- to 15-year-old age group, that percentage climbs to 65 percent.”
However, nothing seems to be standing in the way of Miley’s fame, as Disney's 3-D film, “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert,” featuring footage from her sold out world tour, has proven to be a major blockbuster, grossing more than $50 million over its two weeks of release.
