CBS Tops Valentine’s Day Ratings

While ratings dropped from last week’s Thursday, some people still chose to spend Valentine’s Day in front of the television tuning in on CBS, which ended the night on top, averaging a 6.9 rating/share.

NBC placed second with 6.0/10 while ABC took over the third position with 5.7/9 with slightly more total viewers. ABC fared better among adults 18 to 49 with a 3.5 rating while CBS and NBC tied for second at 3.2. FOX and the CW were also tied, at 1.4.

CBS’ "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" led in total viewers at 8 p.m., even though NBC's "Deal or No Deal" tied it for the lead in households. A repeat of last week's "Lost" came in third for ABC.

At 9 p.m. racing against each other were the new episode of "Lost" and CBS’ "CSI," which placed second with a total of 11 million viewers.

For the night, however, NBC remained fairly competitive over all, tied with CBS for second in the 18-to-49 demographic and tied with ABC in second place in total viewers.

Although the writers’ strike ended, viewers didn’t as eager to watch TV as expected. The handful of new and returning series that made it on the air last week had less-than-stellar performances in the ratings, according to Nielsen Media Research.

NBC’s new series "Lipstick Jungle," from the "Sex and the City" author, which premiered last week was only seen by 7.5 million people, ranking No. 41 for the week, above ABC’s similar series, "Cashmere Mafia," from "Sex and the City" creator, Darren Star.

However, CBS too had a new comedy, "Welcome to the Captain," starring Jeffrey Tambor and Raquel Welch, debuting to an audience of 7.9 million.
