Wonder what Priscilla Presley, Monica Seles, Steve Guttenberg, Marlee Matlin and Kristi Yamaguchi could all possibly have in common? They are part of ABC’s new season of “Dancing with the Stars.”
ABC’s dancing competition is set to begin with a live performance on March 17, the network said Monday, and this season’s contestants couldn’t be more different.
The lineup includes actress and famous former wife of Elvis Presley, Priscilla Presley; Olympic Gold Medal Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi; radio/TV personality Adam Carolla; Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin; and tennis champion Monica Seles.
Also exhibiting their dance moves will be R&B singer Mario; Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, magician Penn Jillette; actors Shannon Elizabeth and Steve Guttenberg; and television actors Cristian De La Fuente and Marissa Jaret Winokur.
The cast for the sixth season of “Dancing with the Stars” was announced during Monday night’s “Dance War” finale. Half of the contestants will perform live on the March 17 premiere, and the other half will perform their first dances on Tuesday, March 18.
The entire cast will perform a second dance on March 24, with two of the celebrity contestants to be booted the following day based on the judges’ scores and fans’ votes.
The celebrity participants have already had a chance to fraternize, as they all met for the first time last week in Chicago in order to tape a special “Dancing with the Stars” segment for Oprah Winfrey’s show.
The episode will air on Feb. 21, People.com reports. Oprah will also have previous “Dancing” champions Kelly Monaco, Drew Lachey, Emmitt Smith and Helio Castroneves as her special guests.
Monica Seles, who won nine Grand Slam singles titles during her career, officially announced her retirement from tennis last week but made no mention of her artistic endeavors.
Kristi Yamaguchi, the 1992 Olympic Champion in women's singles, has focused more on her family lately; she is mother to two little girls, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old.
Priscilla Presley was famously married to music icon Elvis Presley from 1967 to 1973; the two are parents to singer Lisa Marie Presley.
Steve Guttenberg most notably appeared in 1980s comedy series “Police Academy,” while Marlee Matlin received an Academy Award for her performance in 1986's “Children of a Lesser God.” She was only 21.
We’re sure to learn more about these famous dancers once the dancing begins!
