According to a post on the Windows Vista official blog,
Microsoft decided to stop a software update for Windows Vista, which has the
role to facilitate the automatic installation of the upcoming Windows Vista
Service Pack 1.
Soon after the update, called KB937287, was released several
users started complaining about the problems they encountered after installing
the software. According to the reports posted on various forums, some users have
experienced an “infinite” loop of restarts, while others said their system crashed
and went unresponsive after installing the update.
Although, Microsoft said only a small number of clients were
affected by this issue, the company decided to temporarily stop the
distribution of the update.
“We are working to identify possible solutions and will make
the update available again shortly after we address the issue. Customers who
may be experiencing this issue can use system restore to correct it or contact
1-866-PC-Safety for help troubleshooting,” wrote Nick White.
Microsoft announced earlier this month that its Windows
Service Pack 1 reached the RTM status, but the update will be officially released
in mid-March, first in five languages.
According to TechArp, the End-User
Manual Update will be available on March 18, while the Automatic Update is scheduled
to be released on April 18.
In the meantime, Microsoft unveiled a new version of its
Windows XP Service Pack 3, which is one stop closer to the final release.
