Rhys Meyers To Star In "Shelter" Horror

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will play in supernatural horror thriller “Shelter” alongside Julianne Moore, trade paper Variety announces.

The film will be based on a script by Michael Cooney (“Identity”) and benefit from the directorial talent of Swedish duo Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein (“Storm”), Variety reports. “Shelter” is being produced by Nala Films.

Filming reportedly starts in late March in Pittsburgh, but not much is known at the moment about the storyline, as Variety reports that the project is being kept under wraps.

Darlene Caamano Loquet, Nala Films prexy, and Emilio Diez Barroso, chairman-CEO of Nala Investments, will produce along with Mike Macari and Neal Edelstein of Macari Edelstein films.

The announcement of Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ new project comes just one week after his triumphant presence at the Irish Film and Television Awards in Dublin earlier this month.

The 31-year-old star of Showtime series “The Tudors,” where he portrays a young King Henry VIII, received a golden statuette, as did costars Maria Doyle Kennedy and Nick Dunning. The historical series ultimately garnered seven IFTAs, more than any other in the award ceremony's 5-year history, Variety reported at the time.

Meyers’ recent credits include “Match Point,” directed by Woody Allen and costarring Scarlett Johansson; “Mission: Impossible 3,” directed by J. J. Abrams and starring Tom Cruise; and “August Rush,” a family film co-starring Keri Russell.

“The Tudors,” created and written by Michael Hirst (“Elizabeth,” “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), debuted in April 2007 and enjoyed such success that it was soon renewed for a second season.

The series was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Drama Series in 2007, while Meyers received a nomination for the Best Actor in a Television Drama Golden Globe for his role.
