A judge agreed to postpone Amy Winehouse's court hearing, which was supposed to take place on 29 February in Norway, because the singer's husband, who is currently jailed in London, must also attend the hearing.
The troubled British soul singer, her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil and a third person were arrested in the western city of Bergen in October, where they were held overnight on charges of possessing ¼ ounce of marijuana. They were freed on a $715 bail each.
Winehouse appealed the fine, insisting that the Norwegian police made some mistakes in the case. Apparently she thought she was signing her release form, not a guilty plea as she did. Her lawyer, Ole Kvelstad, successfully filed a petition to postpone the hearing, arguing that the Norwegian authorities failed to make the proper arrangements for Fielder-Civil to attend the hearing.
"The [Norway] court says that all parties must appear in person before the court, and the British police haven't made arrangements for one party to appear," Kvelstad was quoted by People as saying.
"This side wanted to complete this case, but when the circumstances became as they did, it was regrettably necessary to postpone," he explained.
In the meantime, Fielder-Civil will be in court on 29 February, in London, where is scheduled to enter his plea to a charge of perverting the course of justice, after he attacked a pub landlord and later on tried to conspire with him to withdraw as a witness at the trial.
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil still wish to make the appeal but no new court date has been fixed, Kvelstad said.
