Former one-hit rapper Vanilla Ice, 40, was released from jail after being checked in yesterday following a domestic violence incident. Vanilla Ice, real name Robert Van Winkle, was arrested Thursday night for domestic battery and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
Winkle was released today after appearing in court. He was charged with simple domestic battery, BBC reports. Details are scarce as his rep did not comment because he was not informed yet of the situation.
Van Winkle was booked by Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies at 10:43 PM ET on a charge of domestic battery. Police officers arrived at his Wellington home after his wife Laura Van Winkle called deputies to say her husband was hitting and kicking her, local press reported.
When police arrived, Laura said she and her husband had had an argument and he pushed her, and she allegedly appeared unhurt. Laura refused to provide further details without the presence of her lawyer.
On the other hand, Van Winkle told police they were indeed having an argument but blamed the episode on Laura being bipolar. He said his wife takes medication but still has irrational and argumentative episodes.
Winkle married Laura in 1996 and they have two daughters, Dusti Rain and Keelee Breeze, aged 8 and 10. The singer previously spent one night in jail in 2001 and was placed on one year's probation pleading no contest to domestic violence in Broward County. At the time, according to the criminal complaint, he and his wife got into an argument as they drove on Interstate 595, with Van Winkle allegedly pulling hair from her head.
As Vanilla Ice, he is known for the 1990 hit “Ice, Ice Baby,” which sold 15 million. His Platinum Underground album was released in August 2005.
