Taylor Swift Wins Top Prize at CMT Music Awards

Adolescent country singer Taylor Swift received the top honor at Monday’s Country Music Television Awards, with “Our Song” being declared the video of the year.

The 41st annual CMA Awards took place in Nashville, Tenn. on Monday, April 14. The event, the only fan-voted awards show in country music, was televised on Country Music Television from Belmont University’s Curb Event Center.

Former “American Idol” contestant Kellie Pickler was the belle of the ball, with three trophies won last night for her single “I Wonder,” while the 18-year-old Taylor Swift, who spent much of the night barefoot, won the top award - video of the year - for her hit “Our Song.”

Other winners included Rascal Flatts, who won best video for a group for “Take Me There,” and Bon Jovi, who went home with best collaborative video for their duet with LeAnn Rimes, “Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore.”

The best male video prize went to Trace Adkins’ “I Got My Game On,” while Taylor Swift’s “Our Song” was named best female video, the teenage singer’s second award that night.

Other winners were Sugarland’s “Stay” for duo video and Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s “Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)” for wide open country video.

The breakthrough video went to Pickler’s “I Wonder,” which also received tearjerker video and performance of the year.

The tearjerker category had co-host Billy Ray Cyrus’ as contender, with “Ready, Set, Don’t Go,” an ode to his 15-year-old daughter, Miley Cyrus, pop sensation extraordinaire. Dad and daughter co-hosted the awards show and also performed.

Among those who performed were Keith Urban, who attended the ceremony with expectant wife Nicole Kidman, LeAnn Rimes, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood.
