A man charged for killing his wife and his four children in a house fire reportedly killed himself in prison early Tuesday, officials said.

Michel Veillette, the 34-year-old man accused of stabbing his spouse to death probably couldn’t take it anymore and hanged himself in his cell.

He had pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated arson. He was held in detention and awaiting to be trialed.

According to Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel, Veillette was facing death penalty for the multiple counts of murder.

“It's hard to tell what was going through his mind, and I wouldn't want to speculate," Hutzel said.

In the morning, a correction officer found Veillette dead in his jail cell. He was hanged by a sheet according to Sheriff Tom Ariss.

The medical staff of the prison tried to revive him, but without success. An ambulance was called and it took Veillette to Bethesda Medical Center at Arrow Springs in Lebanon, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to court documents, Veillette stabbed his wife, Nadya Ferrari-Veillette, 33, after the two had an argument on Jan. 11. After killing her, he went berserk and set fire to their home located in Mason, about 20 miles northeast of Cincinnati. Their four children - ages 8, 4 and 2-year-old twins – died in the house fire.

When asked about his actions, Veillette said he killed his wife after she attacked him with a knife and frying pan. He also said that she was the one who set the house on fire, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Veillette lawyer, Tim McKenna, last visited the detainee on March 26.

"The last time I saw him he was very happy he was not on suicide watch," McKenna said.

"He was feeling good about what we were doing. He had lost quite a bit of weight. He didn't like the jail food,'' the lawyer added.
