Starbucks and iTunes Together Again with Pick of the Week

Coffee and music, great combination! And that is exactly what Starbucks and Apple thought as they joined hands in “Pick of the Week” program, offering customers the chance to download a song or music video from the iTunes Store for free.

Starbucks Entertainment and iTunes will choose a song every week; customers will be given a Pick of the Week download card that will grant them access to the iTunes Store. Starbucks already unveiled the first Pick of the Week: Counting Crows’ “Washington Square.”

The company unveiled that once the Pick of the Week cards are distributed, customers are given 60 days to redeem their song or music video from the iTunes Store.

The program will extend in all 7,000 Starbucks locations across the U.S. and future picks will include artists like Carly Simon, Duffy, Adele, Sia, Hilary McRae and others, the company said. The Pick of the Week will be announced each Tuesday.

“With Pick of the week, Starbucks will leverage its trusted curatorial voice in music and entertainment through its partnership with iTunes to provide our customers with a world-class digital discovery experience,” said Ken Lombard, President of Starbucks Entertainment, in a statement.

Apple’s Vice President of iTunes Eddy Cue also said: “Pick of the Week provides an incredible way for Starbucks customers to discover great new music and videos for free on the iTunes Store.” Cue added: “With the world’s largest online catalog of music and video, there is truly something for everyone.”

This isn’t the first collaboration between Starbucks and Apple: they started with Starbucks Entertainment Area within Tunes in October 2006 and continued with the launch of the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at select Starbucks locations (New York, Seattle, San Francisco) one year later.
