Don’t Question Psystar, You’ll Only Get More Confused!

It’s been a wild ride for the past few days with the Mac clone story: Is it real? Who is Psystar? What will Apple do? Questions left unanswered so far, and the ambiguity of the story seems to deepen, as the company that created all this fuss is as enigmatic as it gets.

The story went like this: Psystar opened an online store, offering for as little as $399 an OpenMac computer which runs OS X Leopard and is a cheaper version of Apple’s Mac Pro. After the Mac clone became the favorite subject of all newspapers and rumors about a legal matter with Apple started to appear (Apple’s license for Leopard only includes Apple hardware), the Mac clone became the OpenComputer.

It seems like Psystar is defying Apple by insisting on selling its product (the online store was closed at first, but it reopened and is now back on business). But that’s not the issue here. Who is Psystar is the question many tried to answer…and failed.

On one hand, The Guardian tried to find out what and who exactly is behind this company that goes through all this trouble to avoid a legal matter with Apple. And the answer was surprising every time!

The digging found error messages, “never heard of it” replies and started even more questions. One company representative did say something: “We’re a small IT company, doing solutions anywhere for small office networks to enterprise-level networks.”

That is pretty much all we can say at this point! Their location…that’s a whole new story, the same source notes. The company apparently has been around since 2000, but was officially registered in 2007, and the address was as follows: 10645 SW 112 St, Miami FL 33176.

Just a few hours after this information was released, the company started moving around, from 10645 SW 112 St, Miami FL 33176 to 10481 NW 28th St, Miami, FL 33172 to 10475 NW 28th St. (CNET News) and who knows where it’s going to be next?

The conclusion: we know nothing about Psystar, except that it’s back on business; we know nothing on Apple's position, as they refused to comment on the matter; is there a future for the Mac clone and its enigmatic creators?...
