The makers of the film based on the classic 1950s children's
book series by Kay Thompson, “Eloise in Paris,” auditioned more than 4,000 girls
and searched four continents, in their quest to find the perfect actress that
would embody Eloise.
The lucky girl who was chosen is 9-year-old Australian
actress Jordana Beatty, who will play the spiritual and sweet Eloise, who lives
in the Plaza Hotel with her dog and her turtle, producer HandMade Films
informed on Wednesday.
"Jordana is a unique combination of funny, feisty,
sweet and soulful ... all the qualities that were so much the essence of Kay
Thompson's iconic character," said director Charles Shyer, co-writer of
the film, according to the Associated Press.
Charles wrote the film together with his daughter Hallie
Meyers-Shyer and Larry Spencer, and is also the executive producer of the film,
which will start shooting in August. Shyer also produced the 1998 remake of “The
Parent Trap,” which made Lindsay Lohan famous.
Eloise’s nanny will be played in the film by Uma Thurman, the
star of the “Kill Bill” films.
A movie titled “Eloise at the Plaza” was made for U.S.
television in 2003 and won an Emmy Award. The film featured Julie Andrews in
the role of the nanny and Sofia Vassilieva as Eloise.
HandMade hopes the Eloise film to develop into a franchise,
with the next movie, “Eloise Goes to Hollywood,” already planned.
