Xbox Keeps Microsoft In The Race

Microsoft presented its fiscal results and once again the Xbox division has had another profitable quarter with over 1.3 million Xbox 360s shipped all over the world.

In its third fiscal quarter, which ended on March 31, 2008, Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD), which also handles the Xbox business, had an operating profit of $89 million with a revenue rise of 85 %.

"During the three months ended March 31, 2008, Xbox platform and PC game revenue increased $418 million or 85% primarily as a result of increased Xbox 360 console sales, Xbox 360 video game sales, and Xbox Live revenue. Xbox platform and PC game revenue increased $1.4 billion or 42% during the nine months ended March 31, 2008, as a result of increased Xbox 360 console sales, video game sales led by Halo 3, Xbox Live revenue, and Xbox 360 accessory sales," the company stated according to GameDaily.

During last year’s estimations, Robbie Bach, the head of EDD, promised a significant improvement of sales in the Xbox department and so far his vision has been fulfilled.

The massive sales made so far are expected to bring additional incomes especially thanks to the related games, accessories and services. Overall, in its 3rd quarter, Microsoft has reported revenues of $14.45 billion and also an operating income of $4.41 billion.

Even though the overall sales for the company were very disappointing, the Xbox division managed to keep everyone going and as some people noticed, it's was just amazing seeing a company of Microsoft’s size being driven by video games.

Also today, Nintendo’s estimates have been published, announcing quarterly profits of about $2.5 billion, which represents roughly  28 times the amount earned by Xbox.
