Winehouse Spends Night in Custody

British singer Amy Winehouse spent the night at a London police station, after being arrested on suspicion of assault, her representatives said in a statement on Saturday. Police officials later admitted that a 24-year-old woman was due to be questioned over allegations of assault. However, they did not name the suspect, as she has not been charged yet.

Winehouse, 24, recently entered rehab after years of erratic behavior and cancelled concerts. She arrived at Holborn police station in central London on Friday, in order to face questioning by detectives. Dozens of fans and photographers waited on the sidewalk, as the Grammy Award-winning singer arrived just after 5 p.m., the Associated Press reports.

A 38-year-old man made a complaint to police in Kentish Town that she had assaulted him. It appears that the troubled star allegedly headbutted an onlooker who tried to help her get a taxi, as she thought he was trying to molest her. She also punched a second person in the face.

Amy Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, were arrested in the Norwegian city of Bergen in October. They were held overnight on charges of drug possession. A video of the British soul singer allegedly smoking crack hit the Internet shortly before Winehouse earned five Grammys this year for her acclaimed album “Back to Black.”

Blake Fielder-Civil is currently in prison awaiting trial on charges of perverting the course of justice and inflicting grievous bodily harm. He denied the charges.
