Sweet Thirteen For The Cure

Beside the North American tour that is scheduled to start May 9th, Cure will also tease its fans with singles that are to be released on the 13th of each month, the band announced on its website.

“Why the 13th of each month? The forthcoming album is The Cure’s thirteenth studio album... A lucky number indeed!” the announcement reads.

After several postponements, the band chose September 13 as the date when their 13th album will be released.

The first single, titled “The Only One,” will be backed by non-album B-side “NY Trip.” “The Only One” can currently be listened on The Cure’s website.

May’s single will be followed by “Freakshow,” which will be released on June 13, accompanied by “All Kinds of Stuff,” as its B-side. The tracks were produced by the band’s vocal Robert Smith and Keith Uddin, who also wrote and produced for “No Doubt,” “Bjork,” and “Nick Cave,” among many others.

The singles for July and August have not yet been announced.

The new album was supposed to appear at the beginning of 2007, but it was postponed twice, to fall 2007 and spring 2008. It will be the group’s first album since 2004.

Bandleader Robert Smith told Billboard.com last July that their much anticipated 13th album would include “songs about relationships, the material world, politics and religion. They're very upfront and dynamic. People will be surprised how stripped-down and in-your-face the record is."

The band’s tour dates include Washington, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, New York, Montreal, Chicago, Kansas City, Vancouver, Phoenix and Dallas, among others.

The Cure first formed in southern England in 1976, under the name of “Easy Cure.” The band changed its name to “The Cure” in 1978. Their album “Bloodflowers” (2000) was Grammy-nominated.
