Yankees Fan Drives Car into Red Sox Fans Killing One

Ivonne Hernandez, a 43-year-old New York Yankees fan, drove her car over a person and injured another while driving to a parking lot after a Yankees vs. Red Sox argument.

Hernandez was charged with second degree murder, aggravated driving while intoxicated and two counts of reckless conduct after she hit the two Red Sox fans with her vehicle in the Nashua (N.H.) City Hall parking lot. According to The Boston Globe explains, Nashua, 45 miles northwest of Boston, is "Red Sox country."

Hernandez pleaded not guilty.

Her two victims were Matthew Beaudoin, 29, who died, and 21-year-old Maria Hughes. The latter was taken to hospital and is currently under treatment. Beaudoin was also rushed to the hospital with heavy head trauma, but doctors couldn’t save him.

Although she said she was only trying to scare the two, Hernandez never hit the brakes. She admitted that she had four beers, but she expected the two Red Sox fans to be smart enough to get out of the way.

"She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people," a prosecutor said.

According to a bartender that witnessed the scene, Hernandez got into an argument with the two customers that spilled outside. When they saw a Yankees sticker on Hernandez's car, they began chanting "Yankees suck!"

That’s when Hernandez turned her car towards the group and hit them.
