Britney Spears Returns to Sitcom for 2nd Episode

Her recent cameo appearance on “How I Met Your Mother” has enjoyed such critical and commercial success that Britney Spears is returning for a second episode which will air on CBS next week.

“Everything Must Go” is the title of the second episode of CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” that will guest star Britney Spears as ditzy receptionist Abby. The show will air on May 12.

Spears appeared excited about her return in a statement she gave through CBS and commented, “Abby is going to have a lot of fun.” Abby had her share of fun the first time as well, on the March 24 episode, falling in love with Josh Radnor’s character, Ted, and flirting with womanizer Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris.

Access Hollywood reports that the 26-year-old singer returned to the set to film her parts for the episode.

“I had such a great experience the last time I was on the show that I couldn’t wait to come back,” Spears said in a statement provided by CBS. “I was really looking forward to working with this cast and crew again. Everyone was so nice.”

We will now see Abby and Barney “bond over their mutual hatred of Ted,” as a rep for CBS told Access. “The new ‘couple’ will flaunt their ‘relationship’ in front of Ted, but may lead to Barney popping a question to Abby.”

Spears’ stunt casting appeared to be a good move from the show’s producers, as additional viewers tuned in to see her performance, thus boosting ratings.

The cast was also pleased with her participation. “[Spears] was so funny, and she already had her character down pat,” Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lily on the show, told TV Guide at the time. “I had no idea she had such great comic timing.”

Jason Segel, who plays Marshall on the show, also praised the entertainer saying she contributed to the episode’s dialogue with a few improvised lines that were “really good.”

“She came up with stuff that had everyone laughing,” Segel said. “She’s definitely a comedian.”
