Josef Fritzl’s Wannabe Redemption

Josef Fritzl claims the media only told its side of the story by just presenting the facts and not considering of other implications like the fact that, thanks to him, his dungeon family survived for two decades.

“I am no monster. I could have killed all of them, and no one would have known. No one would have ever found about it,” Fritzl said through his lawyer Rudolf Mayer, according to Telegraph.co.uk.

After he kept his daughter in a dungeon for 24 years forcing her to have sexual intercourse with him and fathering seven children with her, he now expects to receive credit for leaving them alive.

Which makes one wonder about what kind of life can Elisabeth and her children have know. How is anyone, after going through such horrible pain, supposed to live a normal life?

Fritzl goes further with his affirmations, referring this time to Kerstin, the girl who arrived at the hospital in very bad shape.

“Kerstin would not be alive today if it wasn’t for me. I have made sure that she gets to a hospital,” Fritzl said, not thinking that the girl wouldn’t have been in that condition if it weren’t for his actions.

Mayer, Fritzl’s lawyer, is trying to get a certificate of insanity for his client, in order to be able to declare him unfit to stand trial.

“My client doesn’t belong in a prison; but rather in a closed psychiatric hospital,” said Mayer, according to Telegraph.co.uk.

Reinhard Haller, one of Austria’s leading forensic psychiatrists, says it is very unlikely that Frizl is insane.

“His main motivation was the exercise of power. It is not a sign of mental illness, but rather of an extreme personality disorder,” said Haller.

Fritzl is going to be questioned by a prosecutor for the first time today, and is currently in a remand prison and will appear in court for a closed hearing on Friday.
