DMX Arrested for Racing in Arizona

DMX was put under arrest at his home after police found out he was racing on a highway near Phoenix.

According to state police, the rapper – real name Earl Simmons – was caught on camera while driving with 114 miles per hour (183 kph). The race took place on January 21, Arizona state police said on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old rapper was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at his Cave Creek, Arizona, home. Police said he was very “cooperative.” He was booked into jail and released on Wednesday on bond.

The New York-native rapper, and sometimes singer, was accused of racing on a highway, reckless driving, two counts of endangerment, three counts of speeding and driving on a suspended license, the Arizona state police said.

"Mr. Simmons wasn't signaled out because of his notoriety, we have made several arrests in the last few months of those people who flagrantly violate the speed limit and therefore endanger the lives of everyone else on the road," said Roger Vanderpool, state Department of Public Safety director.

The speed cameras caught DMX driving his 1966 Chevrolet Nova II at various speeds over 100 mph (161 kph) and the speed limit in the area is 65 mph (105 kph). He was photographed by the cameras on the northbound lanes of the Loop 101.

According to a spokesperson, police officers waited until the rapper arrived at his home and then made the arrest.

This is not DMX’s first run-in with the law. Last summer, police found distressed pit bull dogs and weapons at his Arizona home in a raid. That case is still under investigation.
