Coyote Dragged 2-Year-Old Girl From Yard

A coyote grabbed a 2-year-old girl by the head and dragged her from the yard of her home in Southern California. This is the third incident involving a coyote attacking small children in the south of California in five days.

The coyote attacked the little girl who was playing in the front yard, while her mother, Melissa Rowley, stepped into the house for a moment. When Rowley was back, she saw the coyote dragging her daughter away and started running toward them. The animal then got scared, released the girl and ran away.

The toddler was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for several puncture wounds to the head and neck area, and a laceration on her mouth, The Mercury News reports.

The girl was then taken to Loma Linda University Hospital for further treatment, although her wounds were not worrying. She was soon released and is now recovering.

State Fish and Game wardens and county animal control officers set traps for the coyote and were supervising the area around the San Bernardino Mountains.

On Friday, a another 2-year-old girl was saved by her nanny from a coyote’s jaws at Alterra Park in Chino Hills. The girl, who had suffered wounds to her buttocks, was taken to the hospital.

In the same park, a coyote attacked another toddler Sunday. The child’s father kicked and chased the coyote away. The park is currently closed by authorities and the area is monitored.

Fish and Game spokesman Harry Morse said that coyote were probably attracted by food leftovers they could find in towns, and they gradually lost their fear of humans, which leads to a very dangerous situation.
