Foxy Brown Pleads Guilty, Apologizes in BlackBerry Assault Case

Rapper Foxy Brown pleaded guilty for smashing her neighbor in the mouth with a BlackBerry phone, thus avoiding being trialed for assault, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail.

The Brooklyn-native rapper – real name Inga Marchand – appeared in Brooklyn Supreme Court Thursday to sign an apology in order to get a no-jail plea deal for the incident with her neighbor Arlene Raymond.

The 28-year-old rapper admitted the fact that she hit Raymond during an argument. The incident happened last July and the argument apparently started after Foxy Brown’s neighbor complained about the high volume of the rapper’s car stereo. The smack left Raymond with a bruised eye and a chipped tooth.

After the quarrel, Foxy Brown was sent to jail because she had violated the terms of her probation on a separate assault charge. She remained imprisoned until April as she served eight months of her one-year sentence.

After leaving the New York court, Foxy Brown proceeded to trash the Prospect Heights block neighbor she had just apologized to.

When reporters asked Foxy about the court apology, she told her lawyer Laura Delimentin:

"Tell them about our defamation [suit]."

"She is a troubled girl," Delimentin said about Raymond, before asserting she was jealous of Brown.

"They knew this was a weak case. My family has lived on that block for almost 50 years and has never been a problem,” said Brown.

However, the apology didn’t even address Raymond.

"To whom it may concern," the hand-written note said. "I apologize for the incident that occurred on 7/31/07 in that I attempted to scare Arlene Raymond and place her in harm's way."
