Pandemic Studios to Release Yet Another LOTR Game

Electronic Arts has confirmed that another The Lord of The Rings video game is in the works at developer Pandemic Studios. Pandemic was recently acquired by EA. The developer worked on games such as Full Spectrum Warrior, Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars: Battlefront II, Destroy All Humans! and Mercenaries. Pandemic also developed the prequel to Activision's Dark Reign, the great Dark Reign 2 game which I have played and was impressive back in 2000.

It appears that The Lord of The Rings: Conquest video game will be similar in gameplay to Star Wars: Battlefront in that you will be able to control the characters on the battlefield. The game, due for a fall release, will hit the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

"Our Pandemic Studios creative teams have years of expertise bringing giant battlefields to life. We’ve always wanted to harness our experience in a fantasy universe with warriors, archers, mages and castle sieges. Of course, there is truly no better fantasy world to recreate than the enormity of 'The Lord of the Rings' realm," said Pandemic co-founder and general manager Josh Resnick.

He previously spent four years at Activision as a Producer and was responsible, among others, for the successful Dark Reign game released in 1997 and Battlezone released in 1998.

"Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow, and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want--even if they choose to play from the evil side," Resnick said to Gamespot.

Pandemic Studios is also working on Saboteur and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. We'll see how their LOTR game stands compared to the other ones based on Tolkien's universe, but I bet that Pandemic's incarnation will be alright.
